[writing of the late 60s, New York, when Jayne County was Wayne County.] "There was a party for the Doors which Jackie [Curtis, an outrageous transvestite in the Warhol orbit, actor, writer], Leee [Black Childers, photographer, gay man] and I [Wayne County, drag queen, actor, singer] went to, and we tried to get Jim Morrison to pose with us so that Leee could take a picture. Morrison declined. He said, 'No offence, don't take it the wrong way. I've got nothing against Jackie Curtis, I just don't want to be photographed with him,' and strolled off. He didn't want to have his picture taken with drag queens. This is Mr Macho Morrison who used to take his dick out on aeroplanes and wave it at the stewardesses; he didn't want to be seen with queens. It hadn't become cool to hang out with gay people or cultivate a bisexual image back then; that came in a couple of years later, and of course Morrison was dead. I'm sure he would have got into it." There's nothing cool about drag queens today, either. Pretty trendy.
