You should check out the movies you haven't seen by directors like Vittorio De Sica, Luchino Visconti, John Cassavetes (and I'd be more than happy to recommend specific ones).
The Doll (1962)
A Dance in the Rain (1961)
The Constant Factor (1980)
Camera Buff (1979)
Venom and Eternity (1951)
I... For Icarus (1979)
The Wife (1995)
Blind (II) (2014)
All That Money Can Buy (1941)
Thanks, and I hope you do see them. I've looked at many of your ratings and deduced those.
The "Blind" from Norway, right? It's not a movie I'd see again, but I loved how the protagonist (author) played with the movie.. And even "editing" and all the little things - the motivations of humans, what their ulterior motives are and the vulnerability of mankind.
And for some minimalist, quirky comedy, I'd check out almost anything with Kaurismaki and Matti Pelonnpaa.
Love in the City (1953) if you like Italian vignettes made by a handful of directors. I usually don't delve into these (i hear "The Ghosts" is a bad one, along with "Aria") but this was good.
And Kazan's last good movie. "The Visitors" (1972). Most likely an influence on "Funny Games", but it's much better.
And for others reading, there's a TON of great movies on YouTube for free. Older non-classics, which are usually my favorites anyway. I'm going to imagine you've seen all these.
-They Shoot Horses, Don't They?
-The Battle of Algiers
-A Woman Under The Influence
-Mikey and Nicky
-Anatahan
-Woman In The Dunes
-Fists In The Pockets
-The Happy Ending
and almost anything from my favorite YouTube channel for movies

And you don't even need subtitles for this. Very little dialogue. One man, one (beautiful) woman, on an island. No other characters. Short movie, but the movie seduced me. I only gave it a 7.5/10, but I recommend it all the time, just like "Rachel, Rachel".
