I was reading an interview yesterday and Jim said he liked The Beatles "Come Together" (when it randomly came on the radio).
What else? Any other contemporary bands (or people) he liked?

I know he was clearly a huge Stones fan. Jim and Mick met up at the Alta Cienega prior to the Hollywood Bowl show in July of '68.
When Jim was arrested upon arrival in Phoenix in '69, he was headed to a Stones concert.

They even tried throwing a phony airplane hijacking case at him, but in any scenario, it wasn't good having that (despite the case being dropped) during his Miami trial. I wonder how he was allowed to leave the country and go to France with the case on appeal.

And I've always heard Tom Baker was the instigator, not Jim, on the plane
Another band, although minor, that I think Jim liked: The Chambers Brothers. I've heard a Morrison Hotel outtake where Jim says "I've been "psychedlisized" during the session. Plus, The Chamber Brothers opened the Bowl show in July '68.

I meant leaving the country during Miami (not Phoenix with Tom, who yes, was the instigator in Jim's life, egging him on, since he didn't have as much to lose)

I do think that Max probably arranged some sort of bond that made allowances for Jim to leave the country, possibly for touring reasons. It was assumed he'd return for trial, as he didn't have any sort of green card status, and wasn't applying for French citizenship. Several people have stated that he intended to return to LA. in the fall of '71.

I can't imagine Jim coming back for jail. I wonder if he thought "Let me leave, and if things are looking scary, I'm staying in Europe or any other country with no extradition laws". You can (and I have) stay in Europe for a very indefinite time. You make a border run, and your back to Day 1, when Jim went to Morocco for example. I think someone posted a postcard with Jim asking Max or someone in the Elektra office how long they could stay, financial-wise.
I think fans will always wonder what would have happened if Jim would have lived even just another few months.

I agree that he wasn't made for jail, and wonder if the fear of being imprisoned hastened his decline more.
And, absolutely - If he lived and returned in the fall, music or poetry would almost inevitably would've been made. I think he would have been so pent up creatively, art would've been the end result, one way or the other.
