Did any of Jim's peers in the music business ever defend him? When I had that newspaper subscription, I looked through all the articles I could, and never heard ONE talk about artistic expression, etc... Too much stockbroker mentality perhaps? John Sinclair got a lot of support years later but I can't think of a fellow artist who defended Jim publicly at the time. I think he was mocked and ridiculed more than anything else. That must have hurt. Just think, Woodstock was around the corner - that would have been a platform to support Jim, say something during one of these stage rants. Someone somewhere could have written a song. John Lennon did, and Sinclair was set free the next day. I wonder if he felt betrayed by his fellow man.

I've never heard of anyone coming to his defense.

Jimi Hendrix was mistaken ("Hendrix on Hendrix"), and he told the interviewer he had him mixed up with Jim Morrison. I don't remember any defense, or condemnation.
