Jim telling them (Robby) not to define the meaning of your song. "Let them do it. Sometimes they'll come up with something better than you did"
Huxley "The human mind has been trained to filter out true reality, but LSD removes those filters".... (reset)

Waiting For The Sun going to #1 "normalized everything" thus not having to change behavior...
Robby is now the third (along with Jim and John, who also went into detail) to lament the endless takes on "Waiting For The Sun" on until Rothschild quit. It lost spontaneity.
Robby says The Doors were very involved at the office every day.. Press, and that Jim spent more time at the office than anyone, and was the only Door to have his own desk.

On the 3rd album, Paul did too many takes.. Robby doesn't mention his cocaine habit. But Robby jokes about how much they lost just for a "snare sound" most fans wouldn't even notice. Drums were recorded first, vocals last, so Jim had to just sit and wait for hours. So Jim would drink to quell the boredom. Then when it came time for him to sing, he'd be too drunk to stay on time.. Mentions how that boredom enabled Jim to bring friends like Babe in.
Robby respects that Jim had no ego. Refusing his name to be on the marquee. Insisting (even on "The Soft Parade" when credits were specified) that the entire band gets 1/4. When Sal and Asher went to Jim to go solo, he was the first to want to fire them.
"Jim wanted to be part of something" (after talking about the psychology; Jim's childhood/family).

Ray pointed out that Babe, Paul Ferrare, and Frank were nice guys, but that they were enablers. Robby echoes something Frank said, that Jim was going to drink anyway, but Robby makes sure to mention how those other guys were OK with Jim always picking up the tab.... But, that it gave Jim something to do, hoping he wouldn't drink as much. And even adds what could have happened if Jim didn't have those guys around when he drank.
The dual guitar solos on "When The Music's Over" was by accident, because Robby forgot to mute the previous take, but as he mentions, many great things happened out of accidents. Robby also mentions that it's his favorite guitar tone.

Robby thought being a 3-piece after Jim's death would make everything easier. No time to worry about Jim, but that didn't turn out to be. Before, all the tension was centrally focused on Jim.
Robby considered it being an insult if they actually contacted Iggy Pop as a replacement, who felt he copied Jim. Robby says it wasn't a thought, and that there wasn't a word exchanged. Robby does say that the names Paul Rodgers and Joe Cocker were brainstormed. Even a mention of Paul, who played bass, was so unorthodox, but I think it's why Robby liked it. "The closest I came to jamming with a Beatle was with Stephen Stills' at Ringo's house. Ringo wasn't home."

Miami. Nothing surprising. I read the story about their vacation. How Jim was alone, and how the two couples saw him as a 5th wheel. Robby didn't like when Jim got the wives to drink with him, while the guys wanted to snorkel/horse-ride.
On the "oral copulation", Robby mentioned the previous incidents when Jim grabbed and squeezed Robby's balls. Jim apologized after.. The other incident was when Jim was naked, hanging from a balcony, and then wrestling Robby, and even horsing around in fake intercourse while in the nude (luckily Robby was fully clothed).
"I would have noticed if Jim was trying to give me a fake blowjob"

A lot about Robby's cocaine and heroin addictions...
"John, the band member I had always been closest to, saw my path of self-destruction mirroring Jim's and took the initiative to round up Ray, Ronny, a few of my friends, and even my accountant........ Unlike with Jim's intervention, John had recruited an official addiction specialist to guide the discussion".

Robby and Ray certainly have different memories! Especially about "Tell All The People" and Robby makes the great point that Jim does say "Go and bring your gun" during the song "The Soft Parade".. I'll also mention that Jim thought it was a dumb song. His words in his last interview with Jerry Hopkins from Rolling Stone. In an article that's on here, Jim explains that Robby is writing more, and that he should get his credit.
Jim's brother-in-law wasn't lying as some suggested elsewhere about him punching Jim.. "But he asked for it"..
I don't know if I'll encounter it, but it should be worth noting that Jim saw quite a bit of his brother and sister. Maybe more than I see mine. Maybe not. But I keep reading where fans will say, "Jim never saw his family". He never saw his father after 1964. There's some confusion if Jim saw his mother and Andy at the DC Show.. I don't know if I even believe that he looked at her during the "Mother... I want to......"

"You'll have a greater appreciation for Jim Morrison" -- Robby mentions that Jim had no PA at Madison Square Garden (it's a sports arena and The Doors PA wouldn't work there in that huge basketball stadium)

Robby says Jim accidentally knocked over Bruce's TV.. Bruce talks about it, but Ray reveals it, and then the video goes back to the Bruce interview, and he says he has the TV. I'll have to check it out, because it was always said that it was because Bruce was watching the world series baseball.... I've constantly read that Jim threw the TV but that luckily it didn't break the window and bounced back, instead of possibly hitting someone on the street and killing them.

Robby clears it up after John wasn't sure, but John Sebastian wasn't allowed contractually to play on anyone else's record (Roadhouse Blues) so he used his father's misspelled name.

I knew John's brother had commit suicide, but didn't know until now that Robby's did. But Robby says he could have been pushed, or that it could have been an accident, but he says all this after mentioning the many mental breakdowns and problems his brother was having while Robby was either living the dream or hooked on heroin.

Nice that Robby concludes that The Isle of Wight performance is one of Jim's best vocally. Glad he also let everyone know (you can hear Jim explain this in his interview with Stevenson) Jim was tired, going from Miami to the UK.. no sleep. And a bit self-conscious knowing he was being recorded.

Robby thinks Jim was probably on barbituates at the New Orleans show (last time The Doors performed, which I hear someone has, but wants a lot of money... Just buy it, Robby, you have the money! Buy it now before something happens to the seller, etc... even if the quality is poor, even if its not the complete show)

Robby basically says how Danny Sugerman was full of shit. Not just the book. But how he was never there and how he hadn't even finished high school when Jim died.
Fucked up that Robby says that Ray was also behind the typewriter exaggerating the stories, which he says he does constantly in his biography. "Ray made it his mission to talk to everyone about The Doors"
Robby says he got the manuscript too late to correct mistakes. But he does call it one of the better books, and says good things about Jerry Hopkins, but that no publishing company would do it.... until Danny sugared it up.

Robby says how John gave Robby and Ray copies of his book before publishing in case they wanted to remove something that was too embarrassing, or factually incorrect. And says how Ray didn't offer them that opportunity.
Before meeting for the VH1 Storyteller, they almost got into a fight because of ^^^

I knew about Stewart Copeland breaking his arm, but I didn't know Robby and Ray felt it was a bad fit. I'm a drummer, and Copeland is such a stiff drummer, the opposite of jazzy, and John is the opposite of stiff. I would have liked to have listened, since Robby said Copeland added new fills. I wonder if it Police-y.

Robby felt that Jim's dad only cared about the money, saying how he disowned his son in 1965, and suddenly became interested, and how he wanted some Cadillac deal that The Doors actually turned down in the 90s. Robby did think John was against it for artistic integrity, especially after the entire Buick thing. Robby says Jim was upset about selling out to corporate America, but that he was mostly upset they would make a decision without him.
Robby goes on to say Jim made decisions without the other 3, like getting drunk, but I think that was to avoid withdrawals, nerves.... He was addicted. I don't think that was the best analogy. Robby goes on to say that John was invited. I wonder if John will respond to this. After what I divulged earlier, I'm guessing John was given an advanced copy.

I was just about to say how fair I think Robby has been. And he has. Until now. Robby now is omitting some shit.. He references it, but he's blaming HIS lawyers for saying how John Densmore is a radical, possibly a Communist.
In John's 2nd book, after 9/11 happened, John either expressed doubt about blame, but I believe he said something to the extent of "We had it coming".. Don't blame it on the lawyers. They didn't guess that shit - you and Ray told him.

"Nearly every major artist I can think of has sold music to commercials" C'mon Robby.. First off, there's many who haven't. But mostly importantly, The Doors aren't everyone. There will only be one group like The Doors. Most of us don't have enough money to buy your book! I charged mine onto a credit card I'll probably never pay as long as I'm alive! And now I'm sharing it with others. Maybe those reading (we get over 2,000 readers here a month) will buy it. But if they don't have money, at least they can read something. I could have finished this book by now, but someone like me who goes to multiple message boards does so to "spread the word", and spoonfeeding is easiest, but I'd love to have conversations on here again. Seems like almost everyone has left the site during COVID. Hope you are all right. And for everyone reading, thanks. I don't even think you need to sign up to comment. There's a lot of other stuff.. Even something you don't hear about a lot - Jim's sense of humor. Concerts. Pictures. Articles from that period. Audio. Text. Everything I can get my hands on. I have the best Morrison interview on my channel --- www.youtube.com/c/LoyalOpposition/

Robby says that Paul Rothschild changed his story. Saying "Riders On The Storm" was cocktail jazz. Then when it became a hit (all Robby's words, none of my opinions) suddenly he said Paul said, "I meant 'Love Her Madly'" but Robby says this is untrue, and that Paul didn't like Ray's "rain-drops" on RIDERS (which I really like, and think it's one of his best solos, along with another on LA Woman -- The WASP, and even Hyacinth House).
If I had to pick their albums in order, it would be:
1. L.A. Woman 2. The Doors 3. Strange Days 4. Waiting For The Sun 5. Morrison Hotel 6. The Soft Parade (their worst album is still better than most band's BEST albums)
